American Costumes

Welcome to the American Costume page. It seems that over the years the term “American Costumes” means three distinct things besides being the name of our costume company that resides in America.

The first is when people look at America from all over the world, you can then ask yourself what would be an ” American costume.” Those costumes that are typically from American history and that have originated in the United States like the colonial costumes, or an American baseball team like the Yankees, American Indian or Davey Crocket belong . Our cartoon characters are typically American and of course Disney is a big part of American culture. there are actually too many to list. Costumes that revolve around our history like Washington and Jefferson; our art , our foods, as in hot dog or apple pie, our cars, like the corvette, our monuments Mount Rushmore or Statue of Liberty, our holidays Fourth of July and Thanksgiving, our movie heroes, Hollywood, and American television . It goes on and on.

The second concept of what is an American costumes is a costume that has the word American in it or American to describe it like American Indian or American cheerleader, American soldier. or American gangster.

The third concept of an “American costume,” is any costume that is built with the colors of the American flag, that is with red, white and blue and silver stars like Wonder woman ,Uncle Sam, and Superman. If you take a bumble bee and create it in red, white and blue he will be an American Bumble Bee. Lastly and in fourth position; it is any costume that is made in America.

Some of the categories above that we think are typically “American” are the Twenties, Thirties, Forties, Fifties, Sixties, Seventies, Eighties, Military, Space, Movie Characters, Sports, Storybook, Western, Holidays, Cartoon Characters, Native American, Super Heroes, Wizard of Oz, North and South Clowns, Colonial, Food and Drink, Occupational, and TV Characters.

So now, it’s easier to see why when people search for “American costumes” why so many different things come up including our company, which tries to offer not just American costumes but all costume ideas, throughout the world. Now wouldn’t you say that a Las Vegas Showgirl is an American costume? I would! There are many Las Vegas costumes that are typically “American,” however, we did separate the Las Vegas Costumes on this site because so many people are after costumes that relate just to Las Vegas, for example Showgirl or Gambling. Costumes that would relate just to New York are the Statue of Liberty or the big apple or the Metropolitan Opera or the United Nations.

Look for the American costume theme on top… it goes alphabetically across and click on it. Many pictures will populate. Some are clearly rentals and some are sales.
